The Lute Society of America is pleased to return to the west coast, and co-present this Workshop with Early Music Vancouver. The workshop is designed to accommodate lutenists of all levels of experience, from beginner to advanced. Beginners are especially encouraged to attend. The main focus is Renaissance and Baroque lute. However, because faculty expertise covers a variety of instruments, this Workshop is also of interest to players of other early plucked instruments, including theorbo and Baroque guitar.

The schedule will include Masterclasses, Lute Construction, Lute Technique, Lute Maintenance, Solos & Duets, Continuo & Accompaniment, Lectures and Special Presentations.

Lutemaker Grant Tomlinson will again offer a daily lute building class. He will have a small workshop set up on the UBC campus where he will demonstrate various lute-making techniques, and show how to use this information to derive a working model.

Tuition fees include tickets for all Festival concerts during the two weeks of the Course.
