This program of musical favorites will include J.S. Bach sonatas
performed by two renowned Baroque specialists, harpsichordist Andrew
Appel, Artistic Director of the Four Nations Ensemble, and violinist
Ryan Brown, Artistic Director of Opera Lafayette (DC), and selected
Mozart arias and ensembles performed by soprano Jessica Gould,
mezzo-soprano Virginia Warnken, tenor Rufus Müller, bass Branch Fields,
and others, accompanied by the Clarion Music Society under the
direction of maestro Steven Fox.
Several of New York's leading
period instrument performers will assemble in a landmark location to offer a concert to raise funds to
support medical research to find a cure for brain tumors.
The
vocal soloists count Houston Grand Opera, New York City Opera, Santa Fe
Opera, Philharmonia Baroque, The National Symphony Orchestra, Avery
Fisher, Carnegie and Wigmore Halls among their collective
credits. Mr. Fox was recently credited with Clarion’s
re-emergence “as an important force in early music” by Musical
America.
The operatic selections will be drawn primarily from Don Giovanni and Die Zauberflöte,
two works whose themes of triumph over malevolence parallel the hopes
of those who struggle mightily against a dread disease.
The concert will be preceded with a cocktail and hors
d'oeuvre reception.
