This concert, in a seasonal tribute to St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, will celebrate the profusion of wonderful music from the English Courts, encompassing the reigns of Henry VIII through William & Mary. Joined by the Frostburg State University Chamber Choir (Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker, director), the concert centerpiece will be Henry Purcell’s beautiful ode for St. Cecilia’s Day (November 22), “Welcome to all Pleasures.” The concert will feature music by Henry VIII himself as well as motets and madrigals by William Byrd, the “Royal Consorts” by William Lawes for violins, viols and lutes as well as lute duets by Queen Elizabeth’s royal “luter,” John Johnson.
