Music's Quill

  • Timothy Neill Johnson, tenor
  • Timothy Burris, lute

Specialists in lute accompanied song, Music's Quill will perform a program of songs by John Dowland and Thomas Campion.

Dowland is perhaps better known than Campion, but the latter was a more prolific composer of ayres for the lute. The composers' respective oeuvres complement each other: While Dowland's songs are not all of a somber character, he is certainly best known for such ayres as "Flow My Tears", "Sorrow, Stay" and "In Darkness Let me Dwell". Campion, by contrast, is known for lighter fare, including the playful "It Fell on a Summer's Day". Lute solos by Dowland supplement the program.
