Although geographically far removed from Western Europe, the aristocratic courts of Eastern Europe were hardly isolated. Commerce and communication, music and musicians moved freely between the two. Sadly, much of the music that was popular in the Eastern European courts has remained there and is seldom heard by audiences elsewhere. This program highlights music by some of the most popular Eastern European musicians of the 16th-18th centuries. The program will include music by Jakob Polak (c. 1545 - c. 1605), Jan of Lublin (1537-1548), Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745), Vinco Jelic (1596-1636), and others. Members of Le Meslange des Plaisirs are regularly heard performing in the Philadelphia area and throughout Central New Jersey. Their innovative programs are wide ranging, encompassing music from the 16th through the 21st centuries.
