A Spring Bouquet of Chansons and Madrigals: The Early Interval’s spring concert will feature music from Renaissance France and Italy in a program revolving around the 16th-century French chanson and Italian madrigal. The program will include chansons and madrigals in their original vocal forms; the consort music that resulted from Renaissance instrumentalists’ appropriation of this repertoire; the dance music that was derived from these pieces; and the virtuoso instrumental music that resulted from the further transformation of these genres. Composers represented on the program will include Claudin de Sermisy, Thomas Crecquillon, Claude Gervaise, Philippe Verdelot, Jacques Arcadelt, Giovanni Bassano and Girolamo dalla Casa. The Early Interval will perform vocally and on recorders, crumhorns, rackett, Renaissance harp, violas da gamba, theorbo, guitar and early percussion instruments.
