To most people "baroque" means Bach, Vivaldi, Teleman, and perhaps Handel. But there is a great quantity of fantastic music from the early Baroque that is rarely heard or played. This program explores the music from the first half of the 17th century, an era of great innovation and discovery, particularly in Italy. This was a time when the sonata came into its own as an important musical form. Composers represented on this program include Uccellini, Castello, Marini and others, all deserving recognition and attention alongside the better-known masters of this era.
