Under cover of darkness, the young Johann Sebastian Bach secretly copied his older brother's prize anthology of musical masterpieces. While the original manuscript is lost, this program reconstructs works that it might have contained. It includes composers we know Bach admired — Böhm, Kerll, Buxtehude, Reincken and Pachelbel, as well as original works by Bach himself. In the end, Bach was found out and punished for his surreptitious copying, but not before he had learned the works of the greatest German composers before him.
- Free pre-concert lecture at 7:15pm
