Personal Summary / Bio
voce CONCITATO is an emerging early music vocal ensemble based in Hartford, Connecticut. The ensemble began taking shape in the Fall of 2013, when a group of friends who share a mutual love of early music began yearning to explore the genre more thoroughly. Meeting in churches and living rooms, they rehearsed for their own enjoyment but realized early on that they had something special to offer the community of Hartford. From that desire to share this music, voce CONCITATO was born.
voce CONCITATO aims to bring awareness and vitality to acappella polyphony of the Renaissance, combining precise tuning and intimate vocal blend with a commitment to the emotional expression of the text being sung. Most recently, voce CONCITATO has enjoyed exploring the madrigals of Gesualdo. These madrigals, with their surprisingly wild chromatic passages and text-painting of the extreme emotions of love, agony, pain and death, incite passion within performer and audience alike. Through the use of dramatic vocal color, passionate expression and a keen eye toward historical scholarship, voce CONCITATO hopes to energize a new generation of early music lovers in Hartford and throughout the world.
