Alize Rozsnyai, a coloratura soprano "displaying profound imagination and control" (Philadelphia Inquirer), appears this season as Blanche de la Force in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites with Opera Philadelphia and Curtis, Adina in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore,Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, Almirena in Handel'sRinaldo with Curtis Opera Theatre. Having recently gone mad in Luciano Berio's Sequenza III, Alize is passionate for both modern and early music. She recently portrayed Lila in the workshop of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer,Jennifer Higdon's yet unfinished opera, Cold Mountain, and looks forward to an upcoming workshop with composer Missy Mazzoli, both through Opera Philadelphia.
The 2012-2013 season has included the roles of Belinda, in Dido +, Delia in Il Viaggio a Reims with the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Hilda Mack in Hans Werner Henze's Elegy for Young Lovers, a co-production with the Opera Philadelphia, a debut with the Princeton Symphony as Susanna in le Nozze di Figaro (Act 2), the role of Gabrielle in Offenbach's La vie Parisienne at the Miller Outdoor Theater in Houston, and soprano soloist in Handel'sMessiah to support Feed by Starving Children with members of thePhiladelphia Orchestra. Alize has additionally performed with Chautauqua Opera Company, San Diego Opera, San Diego Lyric Opera, among others.
In Early Music she portrayed the title role in the world revival of Hypermnestra by Ignaz Holzbauer with Indiana University Early Music Institute under the baton of Stanley Ritchie, performed under the baton of Gary Thor Wedow with Amherst Early Music Festival Opera in Purcell's The Fairy Queen, and is a frequent soloist with the Curtis Collegium under Matthew Glandorf, in such works as Orphée by Clérambault, Bach's Coffee Cantata, BWV 51, Handel's Gloria in Excelsis Deo and Laudate Pueri Dominum, Vivaldi's Gloria, and Buxtehude's Sicut Moses and Herr, wenn ich nur dich habe, among others.
Ms. Rozsnyai has either been a prize winner or finalist with competitions including: Early Music America Scholarship 2013, Palm Beach Opera Competition, the Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship, the Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship of Rhode Island, the Grand Concours de Chant, the Lois Alba Aria Competition, Violetta DuPont Competition at Opera Florham, the Musical Merit Foundation of San Diego, the Carmel Music Society, the Professional Opera Singers Association Awards, California Music Teacher's Association VOCE Awards, Bev Sellers Memorial Scholarship, and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
Additional upcoming engagements include Sophie in Strauss' der Rosenkavalier, Act II, with the Grossmont Symphony of San Diego, and soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church Concert Series. Outside of classical music, Alize is a member of the Philadelphia-based band, The Fancy Balloons, in which she performs as vocalist, guitarist, banjoist, keyboardist, and bassist as well as song writer.
