Personal Summary / Bio
Justin Bland is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in trumpet performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He received a Master of Music in early music performance practices from Case Western and his Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Before beginning college, Mr. Bland was principal trumpeter of the DC Youth Orchestra and had the opportunity to tour Japan as a trumpet soloist. He was also second trumpet with the Prince George’s Philharmonic. In 2007, Justin was also a prize winner in the Mary Graham Lasley Scholarship Competition. He has appeared as a soloist with the South Dakota Symphony, the Firelands Symphony, and the Las Vegas Sinfonietta. Justin has won first prize in multiple historical instruments divisions of the National Trumpet Competition. He has performed concerts on period instruments with some of the leading early music ensembles in the United States including the Washington Bach Consort, Musica Angelica, the Orchestra of the 17th Century, the Washington Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Chantry, the Bach Collegium San Diego, the Baroque Band, Apollo’s Fire, and the Magnolia Baroque Festival Orchestra. In addition to be being a trumpeter, Justin is also a countertenor and has sung with Apollo’s Fire and Opera Cleveland. He is also was an alto section leader in the chamber and chancel choirs at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Cleveland and was the countertenor with Cantores Cleveland.
In addition to his performance career and educational studies, Justin maintains a private studio of trumpet students, coaches trumpet students at a Las Vegas middle school, and serves as a music appreciation instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
