Personal Summary / Bio

Paula Maust enjoys a diverse musical career combining her interests of performance and pedagogy. A dedicated chamber musician, she frequently works as a collaborative keyboardist with a special focus on historical performance practice. She has been a member of Burning River Baroque since 2013 and has performed with them in Cleveland, New York, Berkeley, and Boston. Additionally, she was an accompanist at the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute in 2013 and will return again as an accompanist this summer. Paula is a 2009 graduate of Valparaiso University, where she graduated summa cum laude with the BM degree in Church Music/Organ Performance and was an associate scholar in Christ College, the interdisciplinary honors college. In 2012, she earned the MM degree in organ performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and was awarded the Deanʼs Award for the graduate student with the highest academic achievement. While at CIM, Paula also completed the Early Music Certificate through the joint program at Case Western Reserve University. From 2010-2012, Paula performed regularly with the CWRU Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Ensembles. Significant performances with these ensembles include the Young Performers Festival at both the Boston Early Music Festival and the Berkeley Early Music Festival and several concerts at the Cleveland Museum of Art using keyboard instruments from the collections. Paula has played in master classes for Ton Koopman, Olivier Latry, and David Higgs. Her primary teachers have included Webb Wiggins, Todd Wilson, and Lorraine Brugh. This fall, she will begin graduate harpsichord studies with Adam Pearl at the Peabody Institute, where she will also be a music theory graduate assistant. Paula is currently the organist, childrenʼs choir director, and bell choir director at Lakewood Presbyterian Church and the vigil mass organist and cantor at Immaculate Conception Parish. Additionally, she has a large private piano studio at the Avon School of Music.
