Personal Summary / Bio

DAN SMITH has performed as vocalist, lutenist, guitarist, and gambist throughout the United States. He is a founding member of the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, Schola Cantorum of Raleigh, The Dowland Singers of the University of North Florida, and is a member of Greensboro Early Music. Dan has appeared as lutenist with the Mallarme Chamber Players, Basso baroque ensemble, Ensemble Vermillian, Venti Arioso, as guest conductor of the Free Spirits Ensemble of the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, as a soloist in the Jacksonville, Florida Friday Musicale Virtuoso Instruments concert series, as featured performer at the Florida Governor’s Ball and at the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs, New York, and with the Collegium Musicum ensembles of Duke University and the University of Georgia. His collaborations include playing viola da gamba on an experimental project with avant garde recording artist Jandek, and live performances with Indian tabla virtuoso Sandip Burman. Dan lives in Carrboro, NC and serves as a music educator in  Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools.
