Cowart, Tracy

Personal Summary / Bio

Tracy Cowart (mezzo-soprano) enjoys a wide range of vocal interests, from 12th-century polyphony to contemporary art music.  Praised by the New York Times as “the real attraction” with a voice that is “light and lithe,” Tracy has performed with a number of period ensembles, including Apollo’s Fire, La Donna Musicale, Opera Lafayette, the Trinity Cathedral Chamber Orchestra, the Washington Bach Consort, and the choir of the Church of the Advent.  Also known for her interpretations of new music, she is the resident mezzo-soprano for The Great Noise Ensemble with which she recently performed “Hadewijch” in Louis Andriessen’s Die Materie and the world premiere of Armando Bayolo’s Kaddish: Passio: Rothko.  Tracy received her MM in Early Music from the Longy School of Music and is currently pursuing a DMA in Historical Performance Practice at Case Western Reserve University.
