Charles Stanton, Singer and Opera Director, currently serves as the Artistic Director of Opera Beaumont- the Chamber Opera Association of Southeast Texas. Charles's recent activities have inlcuded 17 debuts of new works as well as numerous appearances in the standard repertoire. A successful Baritone soloist, while in Europe Charles was fortunate to also be given oppotunity to sing significantly as a countertenor. This fostered a sincere enjoyment of musicological research, of period performance practices and the staging of both standard operatic repertoire and early music.
In 2007, Stanton was featured on the cover of the Opera America magazine for his performance of the lead role in the world debut of Chandler Carter's opera, Strange Fruit. Soon after, Stanton was named the Director of Opera at Old Dominion University where he directed numerous productions, concerts and galas while garnering significant accolades for himself and the program. Stanton has worked with some of the most notable artists in classical music including: Justino Diaz, the Maestro Anton Coppola, the late Mr. Richard Miller, Ms. Joan Dorneman, Mr. Martin Katz, Mr. Bodo Igez, the Maestro James Levine, and the late Sir Colin Graham.
In 2009, Charles was honored to assume artistic leadership of Opera Beaumont, the Chamber Opera Association of Southeast Texas. The broad mission of Opera Beaumont is to promote opera and other classical vocal reperoire as a viable, living and progressive art form deserving of a place on the American Cultural Landscape.
