Personal Summary / Bio
Ed Matthew, clarinet, performs on reproductions of late 18th-century clarinets and basset horn made by Joel Robinson, Steve Silverstein, and Rudolf Tutz. He has served as guest-principal with the American Classical Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque, Tafelmusik, and Musica Angelica. He also performs with with Apollo's Fire, Sinfonia New York, Boston Baroque, Handel & Haydn Society, Concert Royal, Arcadia Players, and other period orchestras. He is a member of the Grenser Trio.
On modern clarinet, he is in the orchestra of the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera and was a member of the Broadway orchestras for the revival of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man and the Lincoln Center premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s Parade, and the off-Broadway Fermat’s Last Tango by Joshua Rosenblum.
His recording of Passages, a clarinet concerto by Gary William Friedman, is on the 150Music label. He can also be heard on the RCA Victor, Original Cast Records, PS Classics, and Naxos labels.
