Jean Newton is Dean of Students and Faculty at the Music Conservatory of Westchester, a non-profit community music school located in White Plains, New York . A professional harpsichordist who formerly had an active career as a soloist and chamber musician, Ms. Newton is an experienced music educator and administrator. Prior to her appointment as Dean of Students and Faculty, she served as the Conservatory’s Director of Development. As a member of the Conservatory faculty, Ms. Newton established and coaches the Conservatory's student Baroque Ensembles and has coached both students and faculty in early music performance practice. She has had an active role in helping to design and oversee the Conservatory's outreach initiatives, most notably a professional development project for the entire music faculty of the Mount Vernon School District , an early childhood music program for Head Start families and a music education program for foster children.
Ms. Newton has served on peer review panels for the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the United States Department of Education. She holds an M.A. in music performance (harpsichord/early music performance practice) from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and a Ph.D. in English Literature from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York.
