To recognize donors who make bequests or other planned gifts to Early Music America, we have created the EMA Legacy Society. Members of the Legacy Society are recognized annually in Early Music America magazine. They are also invited to the annual reception following EMA’s annual membership meeting in June, where they can receive our thanks in person and get an insider’s view of what the future holds for EMA. If you have mentioned EMA in your will, PLEASE LET US KNOW, so that we may add you to the Legacy Society.
To Make an Unrestricted Bequest
A simple paragraph, added to an existing will, is often all that’s required. For example, the following sentence is usually sufficient for EMA to benefit from your bequest.
“I give [dollar amount, percentage of estate, or description of securities] to Early Music America, Seattle, WA, to be used for its exempt purposes.”
Residual or Conditional Bequests
If you wish, you can direct the residue of your estate to EMA after making bequests to family members and friends. In this case, the following language may be sufficient:
“I give [percent] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to Early Music America, Seattle, WA, for its exempt purposes.”
In addition, you may make your bequest conditional, in case an heir named in your will does not survive you:
“In the event that [name of primary beneficiary] should not survive me, I give, devise, and bequeath [the desired sum, property, or percentage of your estate] to Early Music America, Seattle, WA, for its exempt purposes.”
Restricted Bequests
While an unrestricted bequest gives EMA the greatest flexibility, you may have in mind a specific purpose for your bequest, such as the endowment of a scholarship, award, competition, or other program. We invite you to consult with us about specific projects and opportunities where such help would be welcome.
